The Crown of Life
Nothing to see here!
We often go through various trials in our life that can be discouraging or bring us down. But in the book of James we find encouragement to persevere through trials. James 1:12 reads, “Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love Him.”
This crown of life probably refers to the laurel wreaths that athletes would be given in Ancient Greece and Rome. It symbolizes triumph and is used several times in Scripture. This crown is the eternal life we are given if our faith is in Christ Jesus.
James is telling us here that if we make it through our trials, keeping in the faith until the day we die, we have eternity to dwell with God. Therefore, we should have this eternal mindset to get through our day to day trials. We are living for a world greater than this one, and we await a reward in heaven far greater than our trials on earth.
Know that you are living for something greater than your struggles, and approaching triumph. Blessed are you for remaining steadfast when trials come your way.
Grace and peace
